Baby Box Bassinets may be a newer concept on this side of the globe, but have been used consistently in Finland for the past 75 years. They are said to be the country to have the lowest infant mortality rate in the world due to these little boxes which offer safe sleeping arrangements (lowering the risk of SIDS) for their little ones.
Being naturally drawn to simplicity, minimalism, and not to mention safety – I could not wait to get my hands on one of my own! If you are a resident of Canada and are currently pregnant or have had a baby between August 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017 you are eligible to pick up a free baby box! Time is running out – so if this is something you are interested in I suggest you look into it ASAP! (Keep reading for further details on how!)
The box also includes a firm mattress and a bag of handy essentials such as shampoo, nursing pads, diapers, a onesie and toy.
If you don’t know what you are having, or prefer to go fairly gender-neutral in the way of baby furniture I suggest choosing the boy option (shown) which is somewhat of a celadon colour (greenish grey/blue) – it has little deer all over it and is very calming and peaceful looking!
How to Get a FREE Baby Box Bassinet
- Complete your registration at Baby Box University (it’s super easy)
- Log on to Baby Box University, watch the short videos offered and then test your knowledge by completing the quiz at the end. You then are given your completion certificate to print off.
- Find the closest Distribution Centre to where you live. You can do so by clicking the link I have shared and looking along the right hand side of the page and the stars on the map. Yellow stars indicate there are boxes still available while orange/red means they are out of stock. If you reside in the Kitchener/Waterloo area as I do – the closest one was in Woodstock, Ontario (address and contact info below). Remember to present your certificate upon arrival!
Address I picked up mine from:
Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre
35 Metcalf Street
Woodstock, Ontario, Canada
