Last week I was working on a little project – creating a fun space for me and baby J to spend time in through the winter ahead and beyond. I am a huge nature lover so it goes without saying that I wanted to bring the outdoors in as much as possible!
I gathered some plants into one of the biggest and brightest rooms of our house. My home studio is at the opposite end of it. I purchased this adorable teepee tent from amazon.ca. Underneath it is a beautiful rug that my mother-in-law bought for us and being as I have not yet decided where to put it, it’s currently used as a very comfy play mat. I layered some cozy essentials on it like my sheepskin, toys, a blanket etc. I have a cute little cloud pillow on order from Etsy that I am still waiting on!
Of course what is a play room without toys? Prior to having a little one I envisioned all of these neutral toys but seeing as he really seems to love the colours, his artist mommy decided to cave and purchased these BoiKido musical blocks. They are suggested to be great brain builders! In this case, function over style and to be honest, I enjoy looking at them as they aren’t your typical primary tones.
This is still a work in progress as I am planning to purchase more plants! Not only do they add a great vibe to the room and make us feel like we are camping, but they are also natural air purifiers so you can never have too many! At night we sometimes play cricket sounds on his white noise machine and project stars onto the ceiling. It really starts to feel like you are in the middle of a forest and J loves it.
It occurred to me how important it is now that the winter is hitting to make a space where we can entertain ourselves and play. As most Canadians know, once the cold temperatures arrive, one feels like hibernating! I’ve been looking over local baby activity schedules lately as well – so that I will hopefully be chalk full of ideas on what to do on those days when we really want to go out.
There you have our play room! Mamas is there a favourite room in your house?
