new year changes

Big Changes in 2018

Hi friends! I can definitely say 2017 brought a lot of change to my life. I grew my readership for this blog in leaps and bounds. I was accepted by rewardStyle to utilize the App for my followers to shop my finds. Also a big win, at the tail end of the year I got my first paid Instagram post! Along with partnering with many amazing brands and being sent a ton of fantastic products to review I was given the opportunity to network with many other cool creatives! Naturally, I should keep going in the same direction right?

I was inspired to make this year different in another way. Actually, it scares me a little but I am doing it.

Another massive change in my life in 2017 was bringing a sweet baby into the world. With him demanding a great deal of my time and energy I suddenly realized just how much I was on my phone and it wasn’t the type of person I wanted to be.

While on maternity leave, the phone addiction is reaaaaal.Β The temptation to be checking my device every so often and browsing cool feeds is really strong. Instagram’s new algorithm also encourages frequent engagement and I no longer have the time without sacrificing other things. While I could simply put my phone somewhere for the day and ignore it, there was no closure to that. I came to the conclusion that it really needs to be away from me, at least at this stage in my life.

I am getting rid of my Instagram app and no longer posting content. There – I said it! AH! I figure I have worked way too hard to delete it and it is a gorgeous feed if I do say so myself! This decision feels very drastic and terrifies me because I promote my blog on it! Thankfully I have noticed I have been getting readers from all corners of the internet so crossing my fingers I won’t see a huge difference although I am sure there will be some. I still feel like I am breaking the rules and maybe I am. For me, the pros outweigh the cons and my sense of well-being and time with my son – true, real and unplugged is really important to me.

If you are enjoying my weekly posts I encourage you to subscribe. It really means a lot to know this blog is making a difference and enjoyed! For those of you already subscribing I can not thank you enough, you are amazing! Stay beautiful inside and out.

For requests on the types of things you would like to see me write about feel free to reach out. I have some exciting topics to chat about (hint hint – I have been doing some redecorating) and products to share in 2018. If you are a brand and you fit my aesthetic: airy, natural, fresh, minimalist, chic – I would love to hear from you and possibly create a feature!

Happy 2018 Beauties. Will you take the plunge and unplug (even just a little) this year?

That’s a HUGE decision but congrats for making it! While I haven’t been that drastic (yet?) you can definitely see the decline in my instagram posting – and social media posting in general! It’s SOOO hard to keep up isn’t it? And I want to support all my friends and brands I’m loyal to as well but then I end up sucked into the rabbit hole. And to be honest…it may have been easier when T was a newborn but now that he’s a toddler…there is NO WAY!

Thanks for the encouragement! And nice to know that in the long run it may even get MORE challenging to keep up, so nice to get out now! It’s going to be strange for a bit but I feel good about this decision. You are right about getting sucked into the rabbit hole!

Of course, I have to subscribe! I love reading your posts and your instagram posts are so nice! I would love to read more about your baby!! But I know the feeling, I’m HARDLY ever on instagram, it’s just so hard to keep up with the perfect pictures! So I actually have given up making the photos look perfect and focused more on the story instead.

See you soon on the blogging world πŸ™‚

Totally subscribed a while ago! Love your context and pictures. I have to say, you are a brave one! But props to you on realizing where you stand and making your priorities a reality… you definitely gave me food for thought πŸ’. Xo

Thanks Ina! This is charting new territory for me! Instagram has been a social media staple for half of my twenties – now what? I like the idea of things being a simpler and more in the moment. I want to be present 100% of my time or as close as I can get to it.

Yay Jo!! So proud of you πŸ™‚ Instagram is a funny thing… when you have it, you feel compelled to be on it all the time, but when it’s gone, you don’t miss it at all! Liberation!!
    Hugs to you! <3

Nobody knows what the future brings. But we can hope for the best things to happen. Change is everywhere and it is the only permanent thing in the world.
