Years ago I caught myself in a bad habit. I would complain in the summer when it was really hot and humid. Then I would rant about the cold (probably even shouting to the sky a few times) when the icy wind would not relent. I decided I needed to pick a side and stick with it, even though we can all agree that those mid-range temps are the most perfect of them all. The side I chose was warmth. I love all seasons, but something about springtime makes my heart flutter with joy. Now even in the summer when it feels like a sauna I refuse to allow my thoughts to think negatively about it. I tell myself – at least it’s not -20C.
While Canada is not warming up quite fast enough for my liking at this point, I decided to peace out and take vacation! What better place to escape to than Los Angeles, one of my favourite places in all of North America. I love the plants, the desert-like terrain in some areas, the hikes, the food. I love that I can walk by standing water in the evening without a sweater or being eaten alive by mosquitoes (that was my Venice Canal experience, one of my fave neighborhoods)!
Like all places, it is what you make of it. Last time we stayed in an area that wasn’t the safest and we got to see a very different side of LA than what you see in movies. I am glad we got to experience that, as it gives a better perspective on the reality of things. We enjoyed the touristy bits, the hidden gems and the local, every day. If we had stayed longer we would have been able to see even more – hence the part two!
I have mentioned PinkBlush in the past and recently picked out this gorgeous boho-style dress which will be perfect for the upcoming trip! This piece has a drawstring waist and would work great as a maternity dress also, although I chose it from their regular women’s section. I love the tassels, they are the cutest added touch! I love flowy clothing and this is so comfortable. I paired it with my Rachel Pally reversible clutch that I received in my Spring FabFitFun box and a colourful head wrap from Zara.
While shooting photos today it was super bright! Do I manage to at least look like I am enjoying a warm, spring day? It was 1 or 2 degrees above freezing, so I asked my husband to take the photo below as a little behind the scenes peak at what I really do between shots! Canadian fashion bloggers – who’s with me on this?
Nonetheless, I am thankful to live where I do and happy to be able to raise my boy here. Vacations are great, but having a place to call home makes them all the more special.
What are your go-to looks when you travel? Do you have a favourite vacation destination?
